Being I have never been to the Mayan Riviera, let alone the GS....just wondering if I take my laptop, will I be able to use it in our room or would it be better to just use the computers at the resort...then there is always the security issue of leaving it in our room...

You can use your laptop in your room but it won't be a wireless connection. There is a port at the desk where you can plug into so you'll need an ethernet cable as well.

If it were me and I didn't need to be online frequently, I'd use the ones at the resort.

Yes my brother & sister in law used theres in there room. When you go pay for it they will give you a password, make sure you don't lose it lol....they left there's on the desk in the room & the made cleaned it up (just doing her job hehehe). That was there 2nd last day so they didn't bother going to get a new one or anything. I think they paid around $50 for the week but not exactly sure on that price.

I bought a 30 minutes of "internet use" for like $67 Pesos. The system was not very accurate. One time I logged out and I had about 12 minutes left. Next time I log in, it's back up to 29 minutes. And also, a few of the computers you couldn't even log out of of because it had no option for that but the good thing about it, it was always logged in. When you enter the computer room and are facing the direction you entered. There are 4 or 5 computers against that wall. The one on the very right and the one second from the left are the computers that are always logged in. At least, that was the case for the 8 full days I spent there. Just a heads up.... make note of it. haha

If you get a room that faces west you might be able to hit an unsecured wifi connection but it is iffy at best.

So do you have to use an ethernet cable or will the GS give you a password? If so does the password cost money?

What are the chancesof the laptop being stolen by housekeeping?

Sorry if I am repeating some questions but the above posts are a bit conflicting. Thanks

We paid about $55 dollars for a week of internet. But used it for the full 2 weeks with still lots of time left. Only used the time in our room ( I would always forget my info when by the computer room)so glad we took a network cable with us. The laptop we took was a netbook very small so it would fit in the safe so if the one you are using is not one of the overly large types it may fit in the safe. If you get a cable from GS I think they charge you for it but not sure. We started off in building 16 looking at the lobby I could get one little bar on my wireless didn't work very well and had to use the internet plug that is on the wall by the desk in our room.
